Anderson localization of elastic waves observed !

In collaboration with the group of Professor John Page (University of Manitoba, Canada), a team of LPMMC has observed strong localization of elastic waves. In an article published online the 19th of October 2008 in Nature Physics it has shown that elastic waves can be localized by disorder in a sample composed of aluminum beads. To prove the localization, it has performed and theoretically analyzed 3 different experiments : the transverse localization in 3D, the dynamical transmission and measurements of the statistics of elastic speckle fluctuations.
